We are happy to inform our members that Shri Abdulgani Y. Serang NUSI General Secretary met the Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee in New Delhi on 5th April 2002, the National Maritime Day. Shri Abdulgani y. Serang proudly represented Indian seafarers in the Maritime Delegation to the Prime Minister. It was led by Shri Vedprakash Goyal, Minister of Shipping along with Shri M.P.Pinto, Secretary , Minister of Shipping. The shipowners were representing by Shri P.K Srivastava, Chairman & Managing Director, Shipping Corporation of India.

Shri Goyal pinned a symbolic silver flag on the Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee to mark the momentous occasion. NUSI General Secretary, Shri Serang explain to the prime Minister that though the first National Martine Day was celebrated on 5th April 1964, it was for the first time that a delegation had come to New Delhi to meet the prime Minister on the occasion of the National Maritime Day. The intention in meeting the Prime Minister was to give the occasion a higher profile so that the issues concerning the shipping & seafarers in particular, were projected at the highest lever.

Shir Serang presented a paper on Income Tax structure application to Indian seafarers, which requested exemption & relief in Income Tax for Indian seafarers on that occasion.
