meets
THE
PRIME MINISTER

A historic event took place on the 5th
April 2002 when for the first time in the history of NUSI,
its General Secretary met the Prime Minister of India.
We are happy to inform our members that Shri Abdulgani Y.
Serang NUSI General Secretary met the Prime Minister of
India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee in New Delhi on 5th
April 2002, the National Maritime Day. Shri Abdulgani y.
Serang proudly represented Indian seafarers in the Maritime
Delegation to the Prime Minister. It was led by Shri
Vedprakash Goyal, Minister of Shipping along with Shri
M.P.Pinto, Secretary , Minister of Shipping. The shipowners
were representing by Shri P.K Srivastava, Chairman &
Managing Director, Shipping Corporation of India.
Shri Goyal pinned a symbolic silver flag on the Prime
Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee to mark the momentous
occasion. NUSI General Secretary, Shri Serang explain to the
prime Minister that though the first National Martine Day
was celebrated on 5th
April 1964, it was for the first time that a delegation had
come to New Delhi to meet the prime Minister on the occasion
of the National Maritime Day. The intention in meeting the
Prime Minister was to give the occasion a higher profile so
that the issues concerning the shipping & seafarers in
particular, were projected at the highest lever.
Shir Serang presented a paper on Income Tax structure
application to Indian seafarers, which requested exemption
& relief in Income Tax for Indian seafarers on that
occasion.
